A Special Lunch

I have been visiting my daughter, Lauren, and her family in Washington, DC this week and I'll be staying through until Monday (the joy of not having to be at work on Monday morning!). This has been so much fun spending time with my three grandsons, talking and hanging out with Lauren and April (my fourth daughter that lives in DC also) - Monday, April and I went to the Botanical Gardens and the National Gallery of Art!

Anyway - today when I took my three yr. old grandson upstairs to read stories to and to settle him down for a nap (yes, I dozed off too) - when I came back downstairs my daughter, Lauren, had fixed this salad plate for me - it was so beautiful I just had to share it - plus she has just given me a tutorial on how to download the photos off my camera - save them on my laptop - and how to post them to Facebook and my blog!!!

This Christmas I was given an ipod and a webcam - so watch out all you "techies" (?) because I am marching into the next century!!!

That meal is a work of ART I tell you..beautifully placed upon the plate and if it tasted near as good as it looked...AWESOME!! Glad you are being spoiled there! :)

Oh my goodness that salad looks soooooo good! Like Teresa said, a work of art!

Thanks for stopping by, I always love meeting new friends! The redwork quilt was mostly my aunts own drawings but some were pictures that she traced out of books, especially children's coloring books. I have a book I found in JoAnn Fabric years ago that has redwork designs that you iron on your block and then stitch around the designs. I would think you could find something at some of the fabric stores or maybe google redwork and see if you can find something online. I have done some but nothing as intricate as some of the designs she did on the quilt. That one took years to do as she put in things about her life along the way. Good luck finding something and I will keep my eye out for some designs too.

Hi Claire, I did a search at Nordic Needle and couldn't seem to find much in the way of redwork. I get their weekly e-mail newsletter and this week's talked about different kinds of needlework. Here is the redwork link:

I knew I'd seen mention of it by them.

The food looks really good. Really good. Especially since I barely cook when my husband is out of town...so I'd really like a real meal right about now.

I noticed that gorgeous salad plate right away! And my next thought was "avocados in the snow in Washington DC...isn't this a wonderful world!"

Just stopped by to say thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog. It is always such a pleasure to find a new blogger that I know I will love to visit. So...I'm adding you to my blogroll and will come back often.

Oh, and I'm thrilled you are going to be exploring Elizabeth Goudge's work...she is mostly out of print these days but you can find her out there on the internet still.

Your life is certainly taking a big turn at the moment! You have such a positive outlook about it too. Congratulations on NOT having to go to work on Monday! I know that feeling well, having retired 3 years ago. Sometimes I still feel that thrill of...what is it? joy? relief? complete relaxation? knowing there are no more Monday mornings at work for me.
